New York Museum to Return King Tut Artifacts to Egypt

_49881235_kingtutbracelet304x171.jpg  Here is an interesting article about a New York museum who is returning all 19 of King Tut's artifacts back to Egypt this coming June. The artifacts were discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter, they were eventually brought over to the United States from Carter's house in Linux,Egypt and from his niece. The artifacts were to have never left Egypt and the first place and were therefore illegally exported. The only right thing to do would be to return the artifacts to its rightful owner which is in fact Egypt.

  1. It's funny that they've decided to return the objects so many years after they were "illegally exported". It does seem like they just found out they were part of King Tut's tomb, but did they not know it belonged to Egypt before? Anyway, I think most of the artifacts they have in NY are much more interesting than the ones they had in the Egyptian exhibition of King Tut in SF. Egypt is right to want them back.

  2. Glad that the Egyptian government aren't P.O. about this. Also, it's pretty cool that they are letting us see the artifacts before being shipped back.

  3. It doesn't sound like the museum realized the artifacts from Carter's estate in Luxor, Egypt, were part of the Tut goodies until recently, which is probably why the Egyptian antiquities department is being so nice about it. Better not mention the rosetta stone, though.

  4. I am surprised to see that the museum held on to these artifacts for such a long long time! Of course, it is great for Americans to get to see amazing artifacts but it would be better if they were exported legally and for the purpose of education and not money (I'm guessing whoever stole them was paid a lot of money)!
